I thought of how I’d looked for God in the wind — in activity, busyness, hustling to prove my worth.
I often find myself grabbing at whatever pieces I can reach, trying desperately to make something beautiful of them and forfeiting the peace that comes from believing He already has.
How do imperfect, frail human beings find the resources to heal from distancing and rejection, to respond to such violence with such love, and to commit to “work on their own healing” instead of retaliating with their own forms of aggression?
The question surfaces: “Why do I know God loves me in my head, but I don’t believe it in my heart?”
When you really want to disappear – is when you really want to be found. When you really want to run away from everybody – is when you really want to be found by just somebody.
Jesus still offers this same profound presence; He has sat down and is waiting to see if we’ll sit with Him.
The critiques to most seriously consider are the ones coming from those who believe in you. This is the critic who gets to have words.
It’s always easier to see the blindspots of another culture, and another political position, and another’s heart, than it is our own.
Over the course of my life, I have learned to accept that I am still in process.
