an excerpt of a letter we sent out to our email community this week:

An Invitation to Still Your Soul

Can I lean over at the end of a long-ish, hard-ish week and just slip this into your hand?
Never, ever be afraid of the wilderness – because it’s a place of stillness. Where you can be still and know that He is God.

The Hebrew word for wilderness echoes with the very same letters as the Hebrew word “medabber” — which means “speaking.”

The wilderness is where the Word is heard and we’re formed into a person of the Word.

The promised answer to our prayers may not be found in promised lands, but in wildernesses.

Every wilderness, every desert — is not where God deserts —
but is where God woos with a whispered Word.

But you will have to be still to hear His whispered Word.

As the Sacred Text reads in (Isa 30:15)
“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.'”

That’s the map for your way through:

You will only have as much strength, as you have the strength to be still.

You will only have as much strength, as you have the strength to enter into the wilderness to find stillness.

When you have the strength to enter into the wilderness that holds stillness – you will be still and know God.

And knowing God is what makes you strong.

Stillness in your wilderness is the first step on the way to be strong.

Can I invite you to come Join our Community on the Way
as we begin a 6-Week WayMaker Online Bible Study

Wherever you are, whatever you are facing, in the very eye of your storm or at the bottom of your depths of disappointment or unspoken broken, friend, can I give you my compass?

A compass to find your way. A compass to part the waves.

Because you and I are both on a journey to find our way— to find The Way—to know God. Because journeying isn’t just walking where Jesus walked, but walking in the way Jesus walked. And the spiritual practice – this SACRED compass – that we’re going to unpack in the WayMaker study together is the soul’s very real and directing compass to keeping company with God.

In our time together, we’ll see how the WayMaker is not a far way off. He’s no distracted lifeguard, oblivious while you flail and drown in the deep end. But instead, He is here, right here.

Will you join me for the WayMaker Online Bible Study this summer with the community at FaithGateway? Our journey begins this Monday, June 13th.

This free six-week journey will help us all together  develop a S.A.C.R.E.D daily habit, a rule of life, that will reorient our souls in relation to God through Scripture, prayer and study.

Being with you, walking on the Way, all of us together in community, is a humbling joy that lays me low with gratitude.

Will I get to see you there too, June 13?

Signing up for the Online Bible Study is FREE!

your sign up includes:

  • FREE access to the exclusive Facebook Group – a whole community, led by our friends at Faith Gateway, to walk through the SACRED Way together June 13 – July 30

So what I’ve been doing:
When I meet the delivery person at the door,
when I walk through the grocery store,
I practice saying it to myself as I look into eyes:
Image of God. Imago Dei.

That face across from ours,
bears the image of God,

That activist with a megaphone,
bears the image of God,

That family with the thick accents & different scents in the kitchen,
bears the image of God,

That woman with a placard & a story,
bears the image of God,

That movement in the womb,
bears the image of God,

That body cut down in the streets behind the tanks,
or horrifically shot down behind a grocery cart or behind a school desk,

bears the image of almighty God on High.

This is the purpose of being human:
Every human being’s true vocation is to truly bear the image of God.
Every human being’s vocation – is to be *God’s reflection.*

What absolutely changes everything,
is to see the face of God in absolutely everyone.

I keep telling myself this to actually practice my faith:
The only way to actually live
is to treat everyone knowing that

God actually died for them.

It takes practice & I’m committed:
There is always grace
to trace
the image of God
in every face.

This is the only way to become truly, fully human.

[you can find this post and other encouragement from Ann
in our Facebook community … will you come join us?]

That’s all for this weekend, friends.

Go slow. Be God-struck. Grant grace. Live Truth.

Give Thanks. Love well. Re – joy, re- joy, ‘re- joys’ again
