you’ve got to meet him: he shares some powerful words on embracing disabilities

“The man gave me God’s Word in my every day heart language.”

It took me aback and yet it deeply resonated —the Farmer spoke of Eugene with the language of the Wycliffe Bible translators he’d grown up with at his parents’ prayer meetings. .

That was all the Farmer quietly said when I told him of Eugene’s passing through to Home… as we both choked back the gratitude.

For 18 months, @jdblase and I poured over every word, of every line, of every page of The Message and countless times my heart ached with the question:

When will one like this pastoral giant ever pass by our way again?

He recaptured our collective imagination,
spoke God in the language of this generation,
and modelled for us all a messy and deeply cruciform spiritual formation.

I cannot fathom the story of God in the world without the message of the humble man from Montana. I cannot imagine a world without the pastoring of Peterson. .

Maybe today even the trees of the field applaud, and we nod, bravely smiling through tears — we have not lost one of the greats… with Eugene, we all only gained. Oh, how we loved him.

wait for it – beginning at 1:18? good words for all to play again and again: there is nothing you can do to make Him love you more…

…and His Word makes it clear: at the core of every one of our issues is this attempt to construct our identity on something else besides Christ.

You can’t experience the power of Christ, the mission of Christ, being made new in Christ, until you know who you are in Christ. Your identity literally means “the same”—that regardless of changing circumstances, the core of you is unchangeable, stable, the same.

When your identity is in Christ, your identity is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Criticism can’t change it. Failing can’t shake it. Lists can’t determine it. When your identity is in the Rock, your identity is rock-solid.

It’s only when you know your real identity that you can really break the enemy and break free. No matter what you’ve lost or who you’ve lost, or what bits of you have been broken off and lost—nothing that’s happened in the past can change it, and nothing in the future can intimidate the reality of it, because this is the realest true: you are always sufficient because God always gives you His all-sufficient grace.

Never ever give any adversity permission to be your identity.

As long as God is for you, it doesn’t matter what mountain rises ahead of you. You aren’t your yesterday, you aren’t your messes, you aren’t your failures, you aren’t your brokenness.

You are brave enough for today, because He is.

You are strong enough for what’s coming, because He is.

And you are enough for all that is, because He always is.

[excerpted from our little Facebook family … come join us each day?]

Dare to fully live!

That’s all for this weekend, friends.

Go slow. Be God-struck. Grant grace. Live Truth.

Give Thanks. Love well. Re – joy, re- joy, ‘re- joys’ again
