On Being a Writer: 12 Simple Habit for a Writing Life that Lasts – Now this book is much like investing in a complete writing workshop — mainly because the genius of this little book grew out of an online workshop. This book invites you to slow down, deeply reflect on one chapter at a time, to pick up a pen and journal through each of the “12 simple habits for a writing life that lasts.” A book for a fresh year with fresh dreams. An invitation, as the book offers, to “become one of those people on whom nothing is lost.” If you have creative prayers for this year, this is a book to take up and really spend some time with…
hand in Hand: The Beauty of God’s Sovereignty and Meaningful Human Choice – This book is a rare jewel — the depth of wisdom in these pages and the the gracious spirit that saturates each page, and the ultimate question it seeks to wisely answer: Of all the questions we confront in life, none is larger and more perplexing than the question of God’s sovereignty and human choice. Are we really free to choose?
Alcorn approaches the subject with an uncommon humility and gentleness and insight and invites readers of differing opinions to pay honest, careful attention to to the conversation and the Biblical text. Truly, the greatest strength of Alcorn’s book exploring the sovereignty of God and how it figures with human choice, is its emphasis on the Scripture. This is a classic book that answers profound theological questions with such a winsome, pastoral voice. Highly recommend.
Lit: A Christian Guide to Reading Books – This is rich. This is a theology of literature.“We get one chance at this life. We have one body, one mind, and one life to live. Reading provides us with a vicarious experience of others’ lives….” Exploring the art of imagination, the importance of parents raising readers, practical advice on time-management to create margin to read, and then the all important distraction management, Reinke is the best, intentional reader I know of: he reads voraciously (often a book a day — before breakfast), he reads widely, thoughtfully, and he reads for transformation into the reflection of Christ. I want to someday maybe read like this man. This is the best Christian guide I’ve ever found to becoming a better reader.
This did my soul deep good.
Growing is hard… and beautiful …. and hard… but don’t ever give up
when they ask young boys to slap a girl? Did anyone expect this to happen?
Post of the Week from these parts here:

one step in front of the other. no matter how terrifying it seems.
The Farmer & I were awed — BREATHTAKING
life is fleeting — how will you choose to live it?
Do. not. ever. give. up.
Whatever hard thing you’re facing right now?
That you want to give up on?
His grace will carry.
His grace will strengthen.
His grace will always, always, always be enough!
Do. not. Give. Up. He’s got you!
Hey Soul? you know how you’re sticking with it & doing that hard thing? You’ve just gotta know, you don’t stand alone, you don’t walk alone, you don’t go alone: “But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength” 2. Tim4:17
And nothing can happen today that will stop Himfrom sticking right there with you & giving you strength.
There is nothing to fear today —
because there is nothing, not mess-ups, not distractions, not less-than-hoped-fors, nothing in the universe that can happen today to separate you from the loving hands of God.
There is nothing to fear no matter what —
because there is nothing, not sickness, not pain, not diagnosis, Not Even Death, nothing in the universe that can ever separate you from the loving hands of God.
There is Never. Anything. to fear — because there is Nothing in the universe that can Ever. separate. you. from the loving hands of God.
