This fallen world never stops dis-membering and we all break apart a bit more everyday…

The kids squabble, we sit in ER rooms, we fail old friends, the dog dies, dinner burns.

And even in the ache, God whispers: Give thanks anyways — do this in re-membrance of Me.

Why in the world give thanks? Why in the name of heaven?

Because when we remember how He blesses, loves us, when we recollect His goodnesses to us — our broken places re-collect. We re-member. We heal.

In the remembering to give thanks, our broken places are re-membered — made whole.

And in giving thanks to Him in the assembly, it’s our very souls that re-assemble, giving thanks to Him who let Himself be broken to make us whole.

At the kitchen sink, crumbs across the counter, pots needing scrubbing, I scratch down another gift: “in this mess… I am blessed” and the ink runs across the page, all the fracture lines in my heart healing in a fusion to Him.

So we just keep on practicing the practice of our faith in Him, the practice of thanks in all things, with just a little daily practice — jotting down  7 Gifts in this little mini booklet that our Joshua (who also blessed us in formatting & designing the Free Easter Devotional: A Trail to the Tree — so grateful for such a son to help out his technically awkward mama :) — Joshua who designed and printed out for each of us. Perfect for the pocket, the purse, the kids, the nightstand. Good and perfect! A gift to share with each of your families, who have given the gift of friendship? A simple little way to daily give thanks for seven things, each day of the week — seven, that number of perfection. Wholeness.

7 Gifts: Good & Perfect booklet

{And if everyone in our crazy little family writes out 7 gifts they’re grateful to God for each day, everyday between now and Easter morning… we’ll have recorded over 1000 gifts as a family… a crescendo of thanksgiving to Him for Resurrection Sunday! Come join us?

For all our thanks is actually for One, Christ alone, for from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.}

So today, just seven gifts of One Thousand Gifts, more, endless gifts… for our little booklet: 7 Gifts – Good and Perfect… re-membering in the giving of thanks

#1…. for every single one of the brave women who had the courage to write each of the 347 posts I had the privilege of reading for the SheSpeaks scholarship. Each one wholly faithful and humble and beautifully surrendered to Jesus — how I respect and cheer you on! Oh, I wanted to knock on each one of your doors and wildly shake your hand and tell you how you ministered to me and how you glorify God with your words, and how He equips those He calls — and keep being faithful to your audience of One. Your obedience matters. I pray to humbly shake your hand in July?

#2…. a two-year old niece who comes real close, and opens her mouth real wide, and sticks her tongue out real long — to show me the purple swirls on her gumball

#3…. the three pussywillows on the windowsill

#4….praying over every single woman who an entry for the SheSpeaks… reading to an impossible ten final posts and then praying mightily before clicking over at RandomNumber Generator — which generated #4 as the recipient of the SheSpeaks Scholarship: Sarah Kovac. Your sisters all pray God’s blessing on His perfect will for your life, Sarah! {And another post later this week, just for you looking for some special encouragement in your brave risk of faith. We walk with you, sisters, and you don’t go alone…).

#5…. those five remarkable minutes we were actually early for Sunday morning worship service (!)

#6….. all six of the kids playing Phase 10 together after supper – gleaming eyes, a half dozen times over

#7…. and this week, #7 on NYTimes … that “Our God is in the heavens; He does all that he pleases” – Psalm 115:3 … and may we please Him by giving thanks for His work alone, nothing at all to do with us, but us decreasing that He alone increase, all our lives magnifying the Giver of all, good and perfect
